Great Antebellum Home in the Middle of Natchez

点评：Stanton Hall is one of the magnificent antebellum homes built just before the Civil War in Natchez. We visited it and Longwood as a part of a combo ticket in the morning before going to Louisiana in the afternoon to hike Driskill Mountain. Unfortunately, we could only visit 2 homes in Natchez as there are some many incredible sites and we chose the two we did because they were administered by the same organization and they offered a lower combination ticket. Anyways, just on sheer size, Stanton is a great house to see. You check in in the rear at the gift shop, but the tour begins on the front porch.
You then enter the great hall and tour the rooms on either side. Currently, the house doubles as an event location and there was a wedding in the afternoon. In the downstairs we saw the main rooms set up for a wedding reception. We still did get to see the study and the dining room. We then went upstairs to see the rooms. The entire time we listened to our guide talk about the family that built the house and the pieces within it. One of the great things in the house are the original mirrors that were made in different styles, thus different looks.
Again, a great piece of history that is fun to see. The home is beautiful and I am glad to see it. However, I would probably still pick Longwood before Stanton Hall which has more to do with the uniqueness of Longwood. Stanton Hall is an amazing home on its own and totally worth a visit.
