A hidden gem, a must visit if you enjoy birds and nature

点评：We live 45 minutes drive away but had never visited because we have dogs, today we decided to venture out without the dogs & go somewhere different, it was Easter Sunday afternoon and a typical April Day of sunshine & showers. The car park was spacious with EV chargers available, the sign outside the entrance recommended an entry fee donation of £10 per person, the lovely lady on reception explained the donation which we were happy to pay but we did not feel pressured to do so and you could donate less. The shop was well stocked with bird related products and there was also a coffee machine if you wanted to purchase a drink (there is no cafe on site) the toilets were spotlessly clean. As we hadn't visited before we were shown and given a map and explained what we could hope to see where. We followed the map and visited all the bird hides which again were spotlessly clean, all of the bird feeders and bird tables were topped up which encouraged lots of bird life, we spent a long time watching a Greater Spotted Woodpecker which we hadn't seen so close up before. Definitely take binoculars if you have them and a camera to capture all the bird life.
In total we were there for 3 hours and walked 3 miles, there isn't a circular route around the reserve so you do have to walk to the hides and go back the same way but this didn't bother us.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would totally recommend it to anyone who enjoys nature, the reserve relys on lots of volunteers who maintain the boardwalks, signs and benches (plenty of those to sit on as you walk around) so the recommended £10 per person entry fee seems well worth it.
