点评:We really enjoyed visiting Tattershall Castle on a brilliant Sunday in late September. Parking was easy in a well marked lot. We are Royal Oak members. Since they partner with the National Trust, there was no fee required for parking or entrance to the castle.
We were greeted by a friendly staff member as we entered the gate house prior to walking over to the castle itself. The castle is actually a Great Tower, the only part left from the original castle. It was opened in 1914 strictly as a visitor attraction and bequeathed to the trust in 1925.
One tours the castle independently, and there are placards located throughout the tower to offer pertinent information.
One can easily walk to the top of the tower. Although the stair case is round, there are set-in stone rails, making it the climb quite easy. And one can stop on every floor to see what secrets are lurking. Along the way, be sure to look out for engravings in the stone, made by people who were incarcerated in the tower centuries ago. All quite fascinating, and explained on the placards.
On a brilliant day, the view from the top is amazing, and absolutely worth the walk to the top. Definitely worth a visit.
