点评：This Lake has made so much progress from when I first saw it in 97. Just this morning , I saw an otter playing on the shoreline. The key to enjoying Lake Apopka is to know what to expect. If you are going through the wildlife drive, expect two hours of very slow, very peaceful open space scenery. Pack some snacks have plenty of gas, and enjoy Wie open views across the lake, birds, gators, otters, eagles, and even other folks working their way through the drive. Early .morning or late afternoon may be best. Be warned, late afternoon usually spawns so.e pretty cool rainstorms that come across the north shore of the lake. Really cool to see. Before, or after the trail, grab some breakfast or lunch in downtown winter garden, or Mt Dora, some really neat restaurants and shoppes at each place. Mt Verde has a small eatery or two and there is a really good diner in the middle of nowhere on the north side of the lake as well.
If you are going boating on the lake to see the spring, see the Buffalo, (you read that correctly), see the gators, or fish, parts of the lake are very shallow, maybe 2 ft or so with a lot of muck, especially the northeast side of the lake. However, if you stay along the shoreline it can get pretty deep everywhere except the northeast part of thr lake. Along the eastern shore from fishermans paradise all.of the way towards the sewer plantz I see waters of 6 to 12 ft deep directly off shore. Then ii gets shallow if you are heading to the winter garden dock. If you put in at winter garden. Head west. After the first ten houses on the left their is a channel right off the shoreline along where all of the docks are. That channel is between 6 to 20.ft deep.and goes almost all.of the way to the springs. I see people go further out in the.lake and almost get stuck, when if they go along the shoreline it much deeper. Once you get past the witner garden dock and 20 houses or so on the left, the entire western part of the lake tends to be much easier to biat with water of 3 to 5 feet and over 6 feet in many places. Finally, you absolutely must take the canal connecting Lake Apopka to Mt Dora chain. It is easy to navigate and takes just shy of an hour. Easier than driving on a road. Make sure you do that earlier in the day as the locks close around five o clock in the afternoon on some days. Enjoy this lake, it is beautiful once you know what to expect.
