Old Town Eureka的点评
点评：I attended Humboldt State in the 80's and have visited and stayed in Eureka twice in the last few years. I stayed at the Eureka Inn both times, which has a feel of an almost abandoned hotel with few guests staying there, once in the summer, once Memorial Day weekend for the Sculpture Race. Old Town had a great street festival with many great small businesses like the coffee house, two bookstores, and an ice cream shop. There was a large police presence at this festival which was nice. However, Eureka had two issues that lead me to decide not to stay there again. First, the homeless problem seemed more dominant when walking around. One guy started talking with me, then following me around. The second concern is that the city seemed like a ghostown with few people in the hotels, restaurants, businesses, and the festival was not crowded or full. It seemed like they were desperate for business to be booming. I do not know the solution, and I do feel bad for the many small businesses who work hard to address some of these issues. I would think the first step is to address the homeless situation, then proceed from there. I had many great memories of Eureka while in college, but the city seems much different now.
