disappointing self-guided tour, so much potential
Fort Trumbull State Park的点评
点评：Visited Fort Trumbull and Fort Griswold and, of the two, we preferred Fort Griswold. Fort Trumbull, a third system fort, having been rebuilt several times, was $6 with an inexact room map, a number of info panels, and a lack of overall context; a docent or audio tour would be nice; and the general feel was disinterest in spite of the nicely built visitor center; seems like a loss of opportunity for engagement. You can go up to the top of the fort and the coast guard sailing ships were docked nearby, paved paths around the fort. Free parking lot.
(Meanwhile, Fort Griswold was an early fort that was destroyed and did not get rebuilt. There is no fee for visiting this state park. This site is a memorial where you can see the fort outlines and some elements of the original fort, climb the obelisk, check out the small museum and watch several videos about the fort and history, and visit Avery House (the home of one of the people killed in the battle moved to this location). Avery House closes at 4 (open Sat-Sun 12-4), so if you come late in the day, you might want to do this first as the obelisk and museum are open until 5. You can see the battlements and pass through the short tunnel to the outside of the fort and make your way along a trench down to the battlements, hidden from enemy fire.)
