In Russian, this hellish gobbledygook means the Don Cossacks Army's Cathedral of the Resurrection in Starocherkasskaya

点评:I went to see that historic church in August. It was constructed on the marshes close to the Don River in the early 1700s. It took me approximately half an hour to drive to Starocherkasskaya from Rostov-on-Don.
While merely a village today, for three hundred years it has been the capital of a vast Don Host Region which spanned over one hundred square kilometres in the southern Russian steppes. It was therefore a big event when the first wooden temple was dedicated there in 1650.
The Cathedral of the Resurrection that I saw had been built in stone in 1719 and since then played the role of the primary religious hub for the Don Cossacks until Novocherkassk, the new capital, was founded in 1805 and its splendid Ascension Cathedral was constructed in 1904.
It was semi-dark and cool inside though the temperature outside was about plus thirty-five Celsius. I was stunned by the exquisite wooden iconostasis adorned in elaborate carvings that, to my bafflement, included vines and grapes. Every detail of the decor suggested, in one way or another, the building's rich history and prior significance.
The main reason to go to Starocherkasskaya. Never pass up such a chance!
