Great food, dreadful service

点评：Lovely setting and excellent food, all totally let down by exceedingly poor service. Our party of five sat down to a meal in The Barn restaurant and right from the word go, service was slow and disinterested. The options for a side dish with the burger were fries, roasted veg or salad. I asked our server what sort of vegetables they were and she simply said "mixed vegetables". When pressed to know exactly what was in the mixture, she told me there was broccoli and cucumber. I expressed my disbelief that anyone would roast a cucumber but she just looked rather confused. I decided to play it safe and stick to chips as we all know what those are. One of our party of five was then served her meal but the other four orders took so long , that our companion was almost finished eating and I had to get up and enquire as to the whereabouts of the other meals. Service was very unfriendly and cannot really be called service at all. We then waited and waited and waited and waited for a bill. All this in a restaurant that was almost empty...only about three occupied tables! I dread to think of a busy day. Given that it is not cheap to eat out and this was certainly no bargain meal, the whole experience was just a let down, which is a real pity because the food really is excellent. Portion sizes are good, food quality is excellent and the location is just so pretty, but would I recommend or return? Never! All the serving staff are very mediocre and unprofessional but our server has to have been one of the worst. The only saving grace is the chef and the wonderful smiling security guard in the car park...he was a breath of fresh air.
