I want to give a special shout out to Liz Montesinos, our guide who truly went above and beyond. She’s warm, approachable, and incredibly knowledgeable. You can tell she’s passionate about what she does, and she was also really patient and offered to take photos of us along the way. As a female solo traveler, I also really appreciate a female guide on a hiking trip.
The show trail started with a nice train ride to Km 104 and we went through lush forests and past ancient ruins like Wiñay Wayna. It was challenging enough to feel rewarding but manageable for anyone with a decent fitness level. Liz was amazing—she not only kept us motivated but shared fascinating stories and history about the Incas. It was also rainy for part of the time but Liz was very helpful in navigating the slippery rocks. The next day was all about exploring Machu Picchu itself. Liz took care of everything, from organizing the bus ride to the entrance logistics. Her tour was the perfect mix of facts and stories, making the ruins come alive. She led us to all the famous spots, like the Temple of the Sun, while also pointing out hidden gems and unique viewpoints that other groups missed.
