Bastogne War Museum的点评
点评：We were fortunate enough to visit the weekend after the 80th anniversary, on our way back from a trip to Luxembourg. It was a bit of a whistle stop tour, and if it honest i came mostly for the battle of the bulge and to visit the bois jacques.
I was surprised at how much detail the museum went into from the uprise before the war to the liberation and everything after, as assumed it would just be about the bulge. However it is obviously very important and good that it covers all areas of the war. The head pieces were good and my daughters enjoyed the commentary plus the large tanks and military vechiles they had on display. The monument outside was also rather impressive and the lady on reception was pleasant. The drive to the bois jacque has a memorial to E company which was good to see. I really enjoyed the immersive experience in the woods. I’d definitely recommend downloading the QR code for the commentary and to see it all in action. As a huge fan of band of brothers it was amazing to see the different foxholes of the men who fought there in easy company, to see just how close they were to the Germans and to look down at the town of Foy. Amazing!!
Sadly, the only thing that let it down was the cafe. I really liked how it was set in a 1940s style and there was a nice array of food on offer. However the service really let it down. We’d ordered and sat at our table and within about 10 mins a large group arrived. It took them about 5 mins to get settle and then straight away their food started coming out. This is fine to pre- order but given that it had been at least 15 mins since we’d ordered and it was only some cheese toasties and a salad at that, we were surprised to see them getting their food before us, especially when the couple who ordered before us got their food straight away. We also weren’t informed on ordering that they were expecting a big group and it might affect our order. When we asked about our food they said they would check and never got back to us, we then asked what looked like the manager who said that the group would get their food first. We then asked him to check how long it would be for ours and he came back and told us that it hadn’t even been put through yet!! By this point we had already been there 30-45mins and so asked for a refund. It was a big let down.
