Probably our best day of birding in Panama!

点评：We had an amazing day with Nando and Ismael, perhaps the best of our entire trip! Nando’s talent for finding and identifying birds is remarkable, and even for interpreting habitat and behavior to predict where birds and even their nests will be, like second nature. He is easily one of the most talented guides I have birded with anywhere. And his son Ismael is almost just as good as his father already! They were also kind and patient and all-around great people who were a pleasure to spend the day with. We saw countless lifers, multiple target species and then some, and even got some great cellphone photos through the scope. An outstanding day!!
The thing I respected and appreciated most about Nando and Ismael that puts them leagues above many of the other (also talented) bird guides we have had, is their ethical style of guiding. They were conservative and thoughtful with their use of audio playbacks, sensitive to the fact that over-exposure to playbacks can negatively impact the birds, especially for species that are trying to nest and raise young. We got incredible looks at more species than we had even hoped for, but without any compromise to the well-being of the birds we were trying to observe. That’s the best kind of birding experience there is!
