点评:We loved Farnborough Abbey. On arrival we were marshalled into a parking bay by a real life Benedictine monk who would be leading our tour.
Whilst their doctrine encourages them to stay largely within the confines of the abbey I was delighted to see that the Brothers have a couple of EV charging points (pics refer). I assume their Teslas and Polestars are shifted out back whilst the tours are in progress.
About twenty of us joined the tour. Our guide was a charming monk and, whilst relatively new to the job, was a brilliant orator. He gave a fascinating tour of the beautiful grounds, abbey and crypt as well as giving us an insight into monastic life with a lovely blend of humility and humour.
One of the Abbey’s claims to fame is that the monastery was founded by Empress Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III and they, along with their son, have their tombs in the crypt.
It’s a stunning place. The monks are self sufficient so the donations made during the tour and little shop help them make ends meet.
Well worth a visit for the tours. No need to book. Just turn up a little before 3 on Saturday!!
