Excellent Art Collection from Kazakhstan and Other Former Soviet Republics

点评：The A.Kasteev art gallery is situated a short walk away from the National stadium.
There is a large collection of art from Kazakhstan as well as an entire floor dedicated to work from the former Soviet republics.
The latest exhibition was by young local artist Sayan Baigaliyev, whose work I found very striking.
I enjoyed very much the other Kazakh art. Some of the paintings had been animated which was an interesting concept.
There was a great sculpture called Meeting by Erkin Mergenov and the paintings by Zhanatay Shardenov (known as the Kazakh Van Gogh) were excellent too.
The art from the former Soviet republics was really good too, especially the work eulogising the benefits of collectivism.
There is also a fine collection of local tapestries and carpets on show.
I spent a couple of hours here and the admission fee was 150 tenge (75p).
The only down side was the insistence on leaving your coat in the cloakroom, which seems to be the norm here (had the same issue in Minsk). Managed to lose a woollen hat as a result of this !
