点评：In our travels from coast to coast, my wife and I have visited many antique shops in a quest for rare books, vintage glassware and sterling silver napkin ring holders with engraved names. But we've never experienced an antique store to rival Elizabeth's Grand Antique Company. Located at 300 North West Street, on U.S. Route 20, in Elizabeth, Illinois, a 20-minute drive from Galena, it is the largest antique mall in Northern Illinois and, according to one magazine article, "the absolute coolest flea market in the state of Illinois." Elizabeth was first settled as a fort in 1825, a year before Galena was founded, and the historic community school that the antique mall is housed in opened in 1900. It housed students until 2003, then was purchased by Michael Maynard in 2014. It was Maynard who converted the school into an antique mall that hosts 250 vendors over 2,800-square-feet on three floors. Open from 10 to 5 daily, it offers antiques, vintage, salvage, home decor, handcrafted, repurposed and collectibles. If you can't find it here, it hasn't been manufactured yet. Books? You need a ladder to climb to the 10th shelf. I know. That's where I found a rare first edition on Abraham Lincoln when I was looking for a biography of Winston Churchill. And my wife discovered a sterling silver napkin ring holder with "John" engraved on it. You can't believe how rare it is to find sterling silver napkin ring holders--and how valuable they are. That's the fun of antiquing, finding things that you aren't supposed to find. At Elizabeth's Grand Antique Company, the odds are in your favor.
