Good heritage museum and not for from central Perth by train

点评：Australia has many railway museums and this is one of the best. Located a short walk from the Ashfied Station on the Midland Line - don't go to Bassenden Station even though the centres address is Bassenden - the centre is staffed by volunteers and a Sunday afternoon is a good time to visit, especially when rail travel is free on Sundays for card holders.
There are many examples of steam and diesel locos at the museum, and lots of carriages from different eras of rail travel you can walk through. Volunteers are knowledgeable, and happy to chat to visitors. There is also a model railway display for younger children and those young at heart. Many of the larger exhibits are under cover, so heat or rain shouldn't be a reason not to visit, especially if arriving by car.
One drawback is a lack of refreshments on site. Surely an excellent opportunity for a food cart to link up with the museum.
