点评:Booked this as a surprise Christmas present for Mrs C as she had rashly mentioned “that looks fun” when it appeared on tv last year. Having left the greyhound with his doggie sitter we set off to the bright lights of London.
This was our first visit to Stratford post the Olympics and the slum clearances have continued with the mean streets of the East End being replaced with swanky city apartments, artisan coffee shops and restaurants of every persuasion. Even Gordon Ramsay has an eatery here although not sure you’re likely to see him in person any time soon.
On to the slide. Having taken in the various stadiums (stadia?) as we walked down to the Helix we were well looked after at reception (extensive tat shop too) and on to the slide. It wasn’t at all busy and we went straight on despite being half an hour early. It’s great fun and only mildly terrifying (Mrs C claims she heard an “oh f**k” echoing down the tunnel as I descended but I contest this.
Afterwards we took in the observatory on the floor above which has stunning views of London.
Nearby there’s plenty to do including the Sadler Wells theatre and the V&A Storehouse, both of which are well worth a visit.
My top tip
Is not to book online and visit off peak. You’ll get all of the fun for a third of the price! Just turn up on a week day if you can and pay as you go in.
