点评:My wife and I embarked on the Blue Train from Cape Town to Pretoria, departing Thursday, 10 July with high hopes of a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Unfortunately, what followed was a cascade of delays and poor service that left us disillusioned with what was meant to be one of South Africa’s crown jewels.
The journey began with a significant delay—our train left Cape Town at 17h30 instead of the scheduled 12h00. This not only disrupted our travel plans but meant we missed the scenic beauty of the Western Cape that we had specifically chosen this route to enjoy.
Upon reaching Touws River, we were faced with another six-hour delay. By Saturday morning in Kimberley, we were informed that due to technical issues, the train could not continue, and passengers would be transported to Pretoria by bus. At this point, we had completely lost faith in the experience and opted to rent a car at our own cost to complete our journey (receipts attached for reference in our formal complaint).
Onboard, while the staff were eager and courteous, they appeared overwhelmed, unsupported, and poorly managed. The level of service did not align with what is marketed as a luxury travel experience.
The Blue Train has a rich history and cultural significance—but what we experienced was a stark decline. It's heartbreaking to see a symbol of South African elegance operate so far below its potential. Until meaningful operational changes are made, I would advise fellow travelers to reconsider this option.
