点评:As far as Caverns go, these caverns are indeed entertaining and a delight to tour. Although, if you suffer from mobility issues, we would not recommend these caverns as there are steep steps. My wife who is claustrophobic, had no problem taking this 45-minute tour.
Founded in 1853, this 120-foot-deep cavern dates back 400 million years ago. Plenty of work went into making the cavern people safe. The lowest part of the cavern is just a tad under five feet—no problem for most spelunkers. The temperature is a constant 58F, superb for summer time viewing.
A three-dollar discount is for seniors at $16.95 at the time of this writing. A regular ticket will cost $19.95. A child’s ticket is $9.95.
Bristol Caverns is well lighted. There is considerable amount of thought on where to place the lights against stalagmites, stalactites and columns. There is a shallow river at the bottom. Another tour will take you along that river if you so choose. Our guide pointed out a “salamander” living in this river.
Our docent was indeed knowledgeable. Just wished she spoke up more as her voice was drowned out by the immensity of the caverns itself.
Today, Bristol Caverns is owned by 3 brothers. One could actually buy the cavern for a price just over $4 million dollars. Most of the work in the caverns were done by W.W.I Veterans paid under the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930’s. In 1944, Bristol Caverns was open officially for tours. Not the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, but assuredly the Bristol Caverns will entertain most people.
