点评:LX Factory is a fun place to wander for a few hours, with something of an Urban Outfitters vibe on a much larger scale. The old industrial complex is packed with small eateries and watering holes, vintage clothing, original art, quirky shops and plenty of street art.
For us, the real gem was Ler Devagar, a fabulous bookstore in a soaring former industrial space that is worth seeing even if you aren’t looking for a book. Upstairs is Jazz Messengers, an excellent record store with a particularly good selection of jazz. There were lots of re-pressed classics to browse through, and I came away very happily with a copy of Miles Davis’s Ascenseur pour l’échafaud.
Throughout LX Factory there is a strong countercultural feel, with graffiti, stickers and imagery that frequently hark back to the spirit of Portugal’s 1974 revolution. It fits naturally with the repurposed industrial setting and gives the whole place a distinctive personality.
At times, though, the countercultural vibe feels a little over-curated — almost too carefully designed to feel spontaneous and rebellious.
Still, it’s a great concept and definitely worth visiting. Come to browse, have a drink or something to eat, look at the art and shops, and absolutely don’t miss Ler Devagar and Jazz Messengers.
