点评：Toponym Pur Navolok has a double origin: a Russian and a Karelo-Finnish one. Thus, pur means "spring" in Karelian, while navolok means "cape" in a northern patois of Russian. Which subsequently makes "a cape full of springs."
We saw that monument in early September while walking down the beautiful Northern Dvina riverfront. It's a sort of Arkhangelsk landmark, so if one's accompanied by a local guide, one's just destined to get there.
Erected in 1984, i.e., in communist times, it faces the river and is crowned with a massive weathervane (that does not rotate). Some people claim that it is the nucleus of the city, but it doesn't seem to be located in its very center. Still, a great photo op, especially on a bright, unwindy day when Dvina looks particularly stunning.
