Discovering Namdo's Folklore and Gwangju's history
A very well planned Museum,displaying not only different phases of the famous Jeollanamdeo,the city of lights,in SW is famous for delicacies,poetry as well as May 18 Revolution.
Life like exhibits ,which carries a virtual visit to the fifth largest city of S Korea.The exhibits represents all the past periods of the city.
Located quite close to the Gwangju National Museum,though location not well marked,has display of folklore on the first (grd)floor,while the second floor depicts Gwangju's history(another photo exh in B&w about Gwngju history presently at Centre of Art(halls and theatre under major renovation, besides photographs of the old city on the gated colony walls near the Namgwangju market)
The entry is free and also a detailed pamphlet is given to each visitor.However,as in other places,the title,notice boards and pamphlets are mostly in Korean language and not in bilingual for the benefit of the foreign tourists.
Since the Museum displays artefacts with all subjects- natural scenery, agriculture,houses,art,fisheries and markets,besides over 100 kept outside,a visit to the museum is a must for a visitory,to appreciate the rich history of the region.
But after visit to these museums,displaying the old charms of one of the oldest cultures,its very sad to note the area being converted to a concrete jungle and the millennium aping the west.
