I need to share some critical feedback about this weekend.
Positive:
Guide's Attitude: Our guide was very kind and knowledgeable, which was appreciated. However, there were significant issues that need addressing, as detailed below.
Refugio Experience: The food, service, and facilities at the refugio were excellent.
Scenery: The views and scenery were gorgeous, but unfortunately, the weather obscured much of it.
Negative:
Weather-Related Risks:
Unwarranted Risks: The ride should have been canceled due to extreme weather warnings. Your decision to proceed was reckless. Just five minutes after reaching the refugio, a major storm hit, which would have made our climb extremely dangerous.
Pressure on Guide: When I spoke to Frederico the previous day, he seemed hesitant and under pressure from you to continue with the ride, despite the weather warnings.
Dangerous Descent:
Unsafe Conditions: The rain made the descent perilous, especially for those not fully experienced in mountain biking. The paths were very slippery, particularly on the roots of trees and rocks, and the streams were rough.
Poor Route Choices: Instead of staying on viable road tracks, we were taken on very narrow, overgrown, and steep paths. I had to walk many sections as they were too treacherous. One rider even fell and could have been seriously hurt.
Ignoring Safety Concerns: Despite my repeated concerns and requests to stick to less challenging tracks, Frederico continued leading us on short but very steep, slippery, and narrow paths. This was unacceptable and put us at unnecessary risk.
Due to these issues, I have lost confidence in your ability to manage groups of intermediate riders. I cannot and will not recommend your services. My strong advice is that you restrict your guiding to extreme mountain biking only.
