点评:I first walked around this area 7 years ago but I don’t remember it being so run down! Lots of abandoned derelict buildings. Some areas looked like a dump tbh.
What’s left of the shops ( I only really saw 3 annd one was a cafe) along the whole alley don’t open until about 11.00am.
There is a Maneki neko museum which was closed when I was there, a little shop selling cat themed stuff and drinks.
Near the bottom there is an interesting cat themed art centre which runs out of the former Marine Engineering School in which they are slowly renovating the classrooms. It’s called Neko no yocho.
They sell some quite cool cat themed stuff and have 6 cats that live there.
They also sell drinks which was a welcome respite from the heat after climbing the hills. I recommend popping in here especially if you like cats!
I’m not sure why this alley is promoted in all the mentions of Onomichi there’s not much to attract visitors, it’s a shame the local council doesn’t do it up and attract more businesses there to make it a more of a tourist attraction.
Don’t make a special trip there unless you want to walk up the stairs to get your heart rate up?
