点评：What a great experience! I arrived early while in town and decided to stop by Churchill’s—and I’m so glad I did.
I was warmly greeted by Lilia, who was incredibly helpful in walking me through the wine tasting options. We ended up chatting about how she came to live in Portugal, and she generously shared insights into her experiences in the city.
Mario then prepared a beautiful tasting presentation and guided me through each of the different ports, blending humor and personal stories that made the experience both informative and fun. Partway through, Rafael stopped by to check in, share his own insights, and learn more about my preferences. He was extremely knowledgeable and, after hearing what I enjoyed, thoughtfully recommended additional selections while explaining the nuances of aging and variation.
Both Mario and Rafael were passionate, approachable, and genuinely enjoyable to talk with. They created a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that made the experience truly memorable.
I also loved the location—it has a hidden-gem feel: cozy, unpretentious, and far from overly commercial, with beautiful views overlooking the river. It’s a bit of a longer walk than some of the cellars right on the main street, but it’s absolutely worth the extra few steps. Having visited several of the others along the way, I have to say many felt stale and underwhelming—some without even a proper greeting, and it was difficult to get any meaningful information upon arrival.
