A Beautiful Preserve, but the Tour Experience Fell a Bit Short

点评：Limahuli Garden is undeniably beautiful, and I deeply appreciate the care and dedication that goes into maintaining this preserve. I also value that proceeds from the tour support state environmental projects and local initiatives, which made me feel good about visiting. That said, my overall experience on the guided tour was a little underwhelming compared to the Princeville Botanical Gardens Tour.
I was hoping to learn more about Hawaiian culture and the unique properties of the plants, as I did on the Princeville tour, but the experience here felt less personable and less engaging. To be fair, part of this may be because I had already learned about some of the same plants during my previous tour.
One thing that stood out early on was being reminded to respect the land and avoid standing on lava stones, which I fully understand and appreciate. However, I noticed that throughout the tour several guests were sitting or standing on the rocks, and the guide didn’t address it, which was a little surprising given the emphasis placed on it at the start.
Additionally, acoustics were challenging. It was sometimes hard to hear the guide, and with limited foliage providing shade, it was also quite hot and exposed under the sun, something to keep in mind when planning your visit.
Lastly, while I understand and even agree with some of the personal views the guide shared, I personally felt it wasn’t the best setting to discuss political opinions with a mixed group of tourists.
Overall, Limahuli Garden is a beautiful and important place, and I do recommend visiting if you’re interested in Hawaiian plants and conservation. I just wouldn’t recommend the guided tour with the same enthusiasm as I would others.
