Good for parties, but a poor vineyard experience

点评：We’d been to evening functions here in the past but hadn’t done a vineyard ‘tour’ until this weekend. Unfortunately as a vineyard, it really isn’t great, and we all left disappointed.
Firstly the wines - it's a tiny vineyard so obviously the range is small, and there's no winery on site. These are average English wines, but some are seriously overpriced. £45 for a bottle of Brut in the shop, or £50 for a sparkling rose in the bar area. Average plonk sold at Taittinger or Nyetimber prices. Needless to say, we didn't see anybody filling their car boots with the stuff as they were leaving.
We did a tasting and tour (£40 per person). The tasting was 3 sips of wine and some cheese & crackers, but the tour was the biggest let down. It was simply 2 stops, in a very large group, while leading you back to the shop. Compared to tours at Chapel Down or Ashling Park, you learn very little about wine making or the history of the vineyard, and the guide even made some mistakes during his talks.
Shoreham is an easy train ride from London and the place was packed with day trippers and Instagrammers. Most looked like they didn't know or cared what they were drinking, and we saw one girl being picked up off the floor by her friends. The Mount is a restaurant and function suite set within a vineyard, more than a serious wine business. Good for private parties, but if you're going as a wine lover then you'll be disappointed.
