点评:Also known as the Tunnel of Hope (& the Tunnel of Salvation) is a tunnel constructed between March and June 1993 during the Siege of Sarajevo in the midst of the Bosnian War. We visited here on a Sunday late afternoon after travelling from Dubrovnik.
The Guide gave a good explanation of the history aided by large map that shows conflict area during the Homeland War. We get to know that the tunnel which runs under Sarajevo Airport, is approx 800 m long, 1 m wide, and only 1.60 meters height. After four months and four days of hard work excavation, it was completed on July 30, 1993. We watched some videos regarding the Tunnel before we proceed with a walk over a shorter stretch. Each wearing a safety helmet we tried out the tunnel walking.
The tunnel was supported by wooden planks and logs but cleaned up for the tourists, definitely in better shape than those've saw in photos & videos. Not a difficult route for us but we all can sense how's the feeling was like 20 year ago when the war was raging just above. Sad.
It is definitely the best testament to the resilience and courage of the people of Sarajevo suffering during threat of death during the war. Symbolizing the struggle for survival and hope, and make one appreciate the gift of peace.
Must visit.
