点评:Sunday 18th January we parked up along Avenida Cristóbal Colón and we walked in the direction of the Faro.
Along the way we passed through Plaza de Colón, reviewed separately.
The tower of the Faro is 56 metres (184 feet) high, so it does dominate the coastal skyline and is visible from some distance.
It is located along the promenade at the top end of the famous Maspalomas Dunas.
Construction of the lighthouse commenced in 1861 and was completed in 1890, the lantern was first lit on the 1st February in the same year. It is still in operation today.
Alongside the tower is 2 storey, almost square shaped building, which was once the lighthouse keeper's accommodation.
Today it is home to Centro Etnográfico del Faro de Maspalomas, a museum featuring exhibits on local history, crafts, and island traditions. It also houses a Tourist Information Centre and has a lower level viewing terrace.
It is open daily from 10:30 AM to 17.00 and admission is free.
The Faro's tower is not open to the public.
We did not have time to enter the Museum, however we did take the opportunity to walk around the base of the building.
