点评:This was a a fabulous museum experience. The place is chock full of fascinating exhibits, more of small town Americana than homestead life. The old movie theater projector and theater organ from the Fox Theater across the street? It’s here. Clothing fashions from the 1920’s, 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s? It’s here. A 1940 Iron Lung (donated to the town back then by the local Girl Scouts). A 1950’s shoe store fluoroscope (X ray) device? Musical instruments from the high school marching band? They are all here. Amazing.
Much to my delight as a railfan, there was also a great exhibit on the Burlington (Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy) Railroad. Lots of memorabilia, old photographs, posters, maps, and even a model replica of the Pioneer Zephyr.
Not to be missed is the original restored Carnegie Library, straight out of the 1950’s. The architecture, the original books, the high school uniforms. All amazing. Not to be missed.
One thing in particular that I appreciated was that everything is so approachable. You can walk right up and touch whatever you wish. Truly a memorable experience, and it is all free!
