点评:The longish walk from the car park through the reception, past the cafe and shops was great. When we stopped outside the house it was a different experience. It’s not an attractive house and pretty boring. With the wonderful gardens you’d think the NT would place plant pots either side of the door. Greeted by a nice lady who gave us ONE small information file which had tiny A5 sheets (about five in total) with a bit of info on each. I was shocked when we turned left into the lounge- it was dull, gloomy, shabby and cluttered. Moving through to the winter dining room/ kitchen- with plastic table cloths (a sign ‘do not touch’ touch what?) The dining room was the best room but Agatha’s dull dreary bedroom was awful, drab and cluttered. I asked if the NT had chosen the wall paint (an awful yellowy cream), but Agatha had. The house was like a dull museum. Gloomy and full of artefacts that didn’t interest. I knew about Agatha’s life and books (who doesn’t?) but this depressing house was a shock. There was no sense that Agatha lived there or wrote there. It needs a total refurbishment and some colour added (and some light! Agatha had the centre room lights removed and tatty I’ll fitting shades gave some light ). The furniture was drab and shabby and there was clutter everywhere. Surely not every artefact has to be on show, and why toys out in the lounge. Saying that, the kitchen the was pretty bare with a bread bin, china collection, and one sorry looking whisk hanging up. We couldn’t get into library as it was packed and a male NT staff member talking and keeping people there. I eventually popped my head in (another cluttered , drab room) but visitors had only less than a third to stand in as the rest was roped off. Come on NT smarten this house up- it doesn’t have to stay as Agatha’s family left it, furniture can be recovered and some of the artefacts stored. I thought it was an embarrassment to Agatha’s legacy.
