点评:Our visit to Caves of the Mound was our very first Summer 2025 activity for our two granddaughters, 9 and 6. We wanted to begin with a bang. It certainly did just that.
Promoted as one of the major tourist destinations in Southern Wisconsin, it did not disappoint.
Both girls were dubious as to the excitement they would feel wandering through a cave 80 feet below ground. However, after just three steps into the chilly chambers, the girls were hooked. The questions asked by the girls came flooding out. Our tour guide, Merritt, was engaging and fielded every question with good humor and knowledgeable insight.
The tour took one hour, and the cave was chilly. (Bring a sweatshirt or jacket.) The floor is wet due to the dripping water overhead, which is continually sculpting the cave formations. There are also many steps.
These are not criticisms. This is a natural environment that has been made as accessible and easy to maneuver as possible. This is not a Disney ride. It is Mother Nature's handiwork.
The gift shop is extensive. There are rest rooms and a self-serve café. Also, the grounds are we'll maintained and extensive, with walking trails for those who wish to extend their visit.
If you find yourself in Southern Wisconsin, carve out some time for Cave of the Mounds.
