点评:With a mid-afternoon appointment at nearby Ipswich Hospital, I needed some sustenance and this was more-or-less on my cycle route between Derby Road Station and my destination.
I had actually tried to get in for food on e early Friday evening some months ago and found not a seat to be had, which says something.
Today, it was pretty quiet, with just a few customers lured in by the £10 OAP menu. You don't even have to be a pensioner to qualify!
I chose not to have the roast beef, beer battered fish et al from the bargain menu, but the portions from it served to those sitting near me were huge and they couldn't finish it.
Instead I opted for the Kleftiko, slow-roasted shoulder of lamb with roasted herby potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, onion and crumbled feta. (£16). It was really nice, only spoilt by the very basic error of not having heated the plate. They don't have a Greek chef; the landlord is passionate about Greece and wanted to offer something different. Well done him.
The very efficient and helpful barman, Roberto, a recent graduate from the University of Lincoln, was the epitome of a well-trained member of staff. Personable, friendly and really keen to please. The Lattice Barn will miss him when he goes off to use his talents in a laboratory.
