点评:I ski toured Breithorn in June 2024. You can access the peak from the highest lift at Zermatt on the Klein Matterhorn. I wanted to go with a group but the only groups being organized by local agencies were for climbing not ski touring. So I went solo. I saw people skiing down from the top and followed their ascent and descent routes. Being aware of the risk of crevasses I asked locals about it and they told me that given the amount of snow the glacier had received that season the risk was low, at least on the main routes up and down. The ascent follows the climbing route but in a zig zag fashion to reduce the steepness of the slope that is close to 30 degrees in the upper part. Most people going up are climbing in roped groups with crampons and pickaxes. You may need to acclimate given the altitude. I took Diamox beforehand and was ok other than for a mild headache. You should get off your skis just prior to the summit ridge because it is very narrow and windswept. You should plant them deep in the snow and proceed with your ski boots to the summit. There was no ice when I was there but crampons are a good idea in case it gets icy on the ridge. If you slip on the summit crest you may suffer a huge, fatal fall on the north face or a dangerous fall down the south face. The views on top are amazing, spanning three countries, and you see the Matterhorn and other peaks. The descent on skis is not particularly challenging other than for the upper part that is windswept, steep and often icy. A fall there could lead to a long tomahawk tumble down. Overall a great experience, particularly on a day with good visibility. This is one of the easiest 4000m peaks in the Alps and well worth the effort. It is a great summer skiing experience that you can combine with lift served glacier skiing. The combined vertical from the top of Breithorn to the bottom of the lift served slope in the summer is about 4000 ft.
