点评:There’s certainly lots to see here and some of it quite surprising too considering it’s a transport museum.
The museum, which is run by volunteers, is in an old water pumping station and on the way in after admiring one of my favourite cars a Capri, we were asked if we would like to see their well. We said yes and we were lead downstairs by one of the volunteers.
We were surprised as the well that he showed us was just massive and is a piece of the buildings old infrastructure from when it was a pumping station that pumped water into the New River.
Also down there were a couple of artefacts as well as a 1940s room which reminded me of my Grandfather’s place in the 1970s, albeit without the shelter in it. The volunteer who took us down told us all about the history of the place and also told us all about the 1940s room.
Just from this beginning area of the museum we knew that we were in for a real treat.
There are four floors in total and contain all sorts of vintage cars (more vintage than my Capri), trucks, bicycles, motor bikes etc. as well as other things like cameras, toys, WW2 memorabilia like an old air raid siren and typewriters both of which children were enjoying using and many other items.
In the grounds there are other areas to see which contain old Fire engines, more cars, trucks and a train carriage which has a model railway in.
There is a café which was very good and even here there are things for you to read about as well as an old juke box which if you ask one of the volunteers will switch on.
This gem of a place really deserves to be better known and we had a very enjoyable visit here.
Note that it’s only open on Tuesdays and some Sundays – see their web site for details as on the Sundays they sometimes have special events.
