Trine State Recreation Area的点评
点评：Trine SRA is a beautiful park with paved trails, picnic shelters with restrooms, a majestic Welcome Center. All nearly brand new (by state park standards). The lake is not accessible from the shore other than a large floating fishing pier. However, this glacial "kettle" lake is very unusual in that it's 5 feet deep near the shore, but maybe 20 feet from the shore, it suddenly drops off to 30-40 feet deep. So, the best (only?) way to fish it is in one of the rental fishing boats with electric motor. I've fished it from the rental boats and it's been very productive for panfish.
Based on the information recording on Trine's phone line that clearly states (or, stated, until I threw a fit) that the Welcome Center/Boat Rental is open DAILY, I drove 200 miles, spent $300 for lodging at Potawatomi Inn, bought an out-of-state fishing license, and my wife took 3 days off work of her hourly $ job. I get there Tuesday morning and they're CLOSED. I called the park office and some snotty "receptionist" informed me "they're only open Fri/Sat/Sun". The only reason I arranged this trip was to rent one of their boats and fish that lake . I'm retired, have surgery-induced health issues I have to plan around when traveling, and money's tight. I was nearly reduced to tears when she told me they were only open Fri-Sun. This was one of two 3-day vaycays we're planning this year. Ruined because they didn't update their information line. And, there were two couples and an older gentleman in the parking lot when I was there, equally dismayed that the place was closed.
Hey, I get it - budget/staffing constraints, blah, blah. But UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION RESOURCES!!! The public relies on your accuracy. When it's not accurate, lots of disappointment ensues.
So, yeah, Trine SRA is an absolute gem of Indiana DNR's park portfolio, but human incompetence can screw up even the best's reputation.
