点评:My wife and I recently took a weekend trip to see sights and to take hikes in Mississippi and Louisiana. We based ourselves in Natchez and look for things to do in the area and only 30 miles away was I sight I had always wanted to see, Windsor Ruins. Windsor Ruins, the former site of a grand Antebellum home in Mississippi just off the Mississippi River that burned shortly after the Civil War and all that is left is the Corinthian columns that once supported it. It is one of those picture-perfect scenes with the neatly positioned man-made columns set in wild nature. The juxtaposition is simply made for pictures.
As we were planning to be in the area, I knew I had to visit. Additionally, if you are planning to visit Windsor from Natchez or go to Natchez after visiting Windsor as we did, you can drive a portion of the Historic Natchez Trace. As for Windsor, it was a great home that actually survived the Civil War and was still being used for visitations and entertainment. Unfortunately, someone dropped a cigar and the whole house disappeared in the fire. The only thing that did not burn was the strong stone columns erected to support it. They now stand as an eerie echo to the past and it is a kind of surreal experience to visit the location.
It is not the easiest to reach. However, it is totally free, and it has great reader board exhibits that tell you about the house and all the various people who called it home. It is listed as one of the great places to see in Mississippi and I totally recommend a visit here to experience it.
