Unfortunately we had a horrible situation with the owner of Elegantz today. I have shopped at this store several times in the past and have always enjoyed browsing. Unfortunately, after my experience today, I won’t be returning.
I spent about 45 minutes shopping, trying on clothes, and had roughly $235 worth of items in my hands ready to purchase. While I had been working with a very pleasant female associate the entire time, a man who I found out was an owner came in and engaged a customer in a loud conversation about tariffs and taxes while standing in the middle of the store.
As I waited in line, he noticed my expression and I calmly said, “You don’t want to talk with me about tariffs.” Rather than dropping the topic, he doubled down, continuing to debate. When I finally shared my perspective, he dismissed me with, “I’m a businessman, I know about these things,” in a very condescending tone and shaking his head. I replied, “I’m a businesswoman and I know about these things,” and politely asked him to stop. He refused and kept lecturing me with his comments as I put my items away and walked out the door.
I have never experienced such unprofessional, misogynistic behavior in a retail store. A shop should be a welcoming, neutral place, not a platform for an owner to lecture paying customers on politics and economics. Sadly, after years of shopping here, I will not be back and I think women should be aware of how dismissive and disrespectful he was.
