点评:Bologna’s Modern Art Museum housed in a former bakery to the north-west of the city centre is a curate’s egg of an institution. It is a curious mix of a permanent collection of what is billed as Italian art since the Second World War yet includes a work by Gilbert and George. It includes a gallery of photographs from the 1960s and 1970s when it staged performance art by the likes of a nude Marina Abramovic and her then boyfriend standing opposite each other with just enough room for members of the public to pass through. It incorporates the Museo Morandi with its marvellous collection of no fewer than 250 of the Bolognese master of the still life. There is currently a remarkable temporary exhibition called PERSO(A)NOMALIA by one Robert Kusnirowski necessitating a stroll around a vast warehouse of miscellaneous objects culminating in a meeting with a burnt upright piano playing the same music written by the artist himself one hears at the exhibition’s entrance. There is a bookshop currently accessed only from the street because the door connecting it to the museum is defective. The bookshop opens at 10am; the rest of the museum at 2pm.
