After Multnomah Falls, this is Oregon’s second-highest single-drop waterfall, with a breathtaking plunge of 286 feet. The accessibility from the road is what makes it so special and worth any effort to make the trek out into the vast Willamette National Forest to go see it. Since there's a wheelchair accessible boardwalk less than 50 feet from the large paved parking lot, anyone can appreciate the wow factor of this waterfall. Others, and those with more time, may want to pay attention to the map for the trail location to get down to the Lower Falls Viewpoint where there are picnic areas, fishing opportunities, and a different vantage point of the cascade's power. Along the top platform viewing sites, there were plenty of beautiful pink and purple rhododendrons to admire in early June. The best time to take in the stronger water flow of the falls after snowmelt are April to August.
Restrooms were closed for repair at the site during our visit. There was a sign directing visitors to use other restrooms 1/4 mile away at Sno-Park. A day use $5 fee is required to be paid at this site using the self-service pay station. There are instructions on how to pay the fee posted at the kiosk We used our Interagency Access Pass instead and visited for FREE.
