点评:It was my first visit & the first of many I hope. In the many decades of visiting gardens around Britain & the world this is now easily my favourite. Although not so large, it is divided up by hedging & walls so seems so much bigger, & of course so much more interesting; every step reveals something delightful. It has garden rooms filled with a wide range of familiar & unusual plants reflecting the expansive & creative genius of the owner who does it all herself.
The are towers along the old perimeter wall with dilapidated but utterly charming wrought iron balconies. You can climb up one tower, & only then, surveying the grounds below can you believe it is not as big as you thought it was. I pushed someone in a wheelchair, & although a little uneven, it is still very doable. My only tiny suggestion still would be to have a water feature or two to encourage amphibia, dragonflies & the like. The carpark is small so I suggest going early, plus it is more enjoyable when quiet. The plants for sale are good quality & reasonably priced so don’t leave without one. I think the owner is usually around, & was friendly & far too modest. I would describe it as charming & inspirational. A true secret garden.
