点评:We visited a pottery shop in Cappadocia, but not just any pottery shop. This was Master Chez Galip’s who has a world wide reputation for creations of the highest calibre. As you can see from the picture he looks a lot like Einstein which explains his moniker The Einstein of Pottery : ) Given his talents it is befitting that he has apprentices who study under him for literally decades to perfect their techniques. One of them, also pictured, gave us a demonstration during which he spun the wheel with his feet, an Old School method required as part of the mentoring process. Before our eyes he made an over-the-shoulder wine decanter which is famous in the region and requires deft skill and tremendous experience. As is the Turkish tradition our hosts offered us beverages as we took in the demonstration : Black Tea (very good) Turkish Coffee (very strong) and a choice of local white or red wine (unique and flavourful.) Later we toured his gallery/shop where I was especially careful as I didn’t want to knock anything over !
