点评:Our family saw the "Road to Damascus" production.
If not for one scene, I would have rated it 4 out of 5.
The questionable scene was of one of King Herod and his court attendants. There were 5 dancing women and 1 bearded man. All were wearing IDENTICAL bright pink and purple silk type dresses. It was not a brief number, either.
I'm very glad I did not take my grandchildren, but I did take my adult children, who were likewise very surprised.
I wrote to the management, who said, "We understand how those styles can look different from what we’re used to today, and how they might come across as more feminine by modern standards."
I don't buy that for a minute!, and find the reply not a little condescending. There was NO difference between the dresses of all 6 dancers. These did not appear to be period costumes either - they were simply bright silk dresses.
The management also said, "I want to assure you that there are no intentional efforts being made to inject 21st century cultural topics into our shows."
And yet it appears that this was the case, whether it came from a renegade actor or producer, or if planned/accidentally by the company.
I'm not assured. If I wanted to see something "edgy", I wouldn't expect to see it in a theater in the heart of Ohio's Amish country, especially without warning to a captive audience. It doesn't seem too much to expect to see family oriented material in a theater that advertises as producing "family-friendly shows".
