点评:Having seen the sign for a smokehouse just past the Glenfinnan Viaduct on the road from Fort William to Mallaig, we ventured to check out what this was, pretty much as a mini-adventure. We were delighted to find after about an 8 mile* detour a lovely remote smokehouse close by to the Glenuig Inn.
I had hoped that this was a place the offered a tour, but alas this was just a shop. That said, the owner, (an adopted Scot formerly of Dusseldorf) explained the smoking process and answered all my questions in a very friendly and informative way. We made some purchases of smoked cheese, smoked kippers, smoked haggis, chutneys and the like and were keen to tuck in. The proof is very much is the tasting and everything was delightful. True - you get what you pay for, and whilst this was a bit of indulgence it was most definitely worth it and my taste buds are very thankful for the sensible choices I made. This shop is well worth a visit for those with a discerning palate who appreciate treating themselves with some authentic fayre, responsibly sourced and made freshly on site.
(*these are Scottish Highland miles where there is gorgeous scenery so it doesn't really seem that long a journey!)
