点评:Are they “dioramas”?
I’m not sure how to explain what the main setpieces are. What you’ll find in this museum are a number of separate rooms, designed to take you through the various cultures of the Andes, culminating with the Inca.
Each section has some models and reproductions of artifacts, with brief descriptions on the cultures they’re representing.
You then pass into a “diorama,” which consists of realistic life-sized figures in appropriate dress, accompanied by music and lighting. One in particular sends you down a dark hallway which seems to be illuminated only by torches.
These “dioramas” depict different ceremonies — like a religious gathering or the burial of an ancestor. The pictures you see here on TripAdvisor don’t come anywhere close to showing what it’s actually like.
I can’t quite explain what takes place here, as it’s something you’ll have to experience for yourself. It really helps bring these cultures to life in a way you simply won’t find at a “regular” museum.
You can look at all the artifacts you want somewhere else, but this place really makes you feel closer to understanding and connecting with the people of these cultures.
You won’t find a spot like this anywhere else. Not in Rome or Athens or London or Paris — none of the places that spring to mind when you think of must-see museums.
Yes, you can go to the Qorikancha in Cusco, and see what remains of the site so sacred to the Inca. Here, you can see it as it may have looked during an actual ceremony, look at the elaborate clothing on the participants and feel what it may have been like to see it in person.
It’s a shame this museum doesn’t seem to be on the itineraries of the tour groups coming from Cusco. It’s right on the main road through the Sacred Valley. If you’re coming to Peru, you owe it to yourself to take an hour or so and check this place out.
