Brilliantly imagined and presented
King Richard III Visitor Centre的点评
点评：This is one of the most impressive exciting history-based museums I've visited. It deals with two remarkable stories. The first is that of King Richard III, his life, his career and the wider context of the 'Wars of the Roses' etc. The second followed the dramatic way in which his remains were sought, found and excavated, culminating in reburial and memorialisation.
If the history itself is not enough to grab your imagination, the museum will draw you in with the way in which it presents the subject.
Displays are colourful, eye-catching and easy to follow, whilst modern techniques such as lifelike projected 'holograms', background sound effects, computer generated reconstructions and timelapse are used to vivid effect.
You can hear parts of the story told by 3D representations of contemporary figures, watch the centuries pass over Richard's burial site, examine holographic depictions of his battle injuries and much more.
Information boards furnish you with further details of the man, his life, the views both of his contemporaries and of people who came after, the archaeological project and the continuing legacy.
There is a charming courtyard café serving drinks, good quality snacks, lunches and cakes and there is a small shop selling many books and quality gift items related to Richard as well as the broader history of his time.
The museum staff are friendly and enthusiastic.
The entry price of £12.50 for an adult is very reasonable and even more so when you realise that it covers you for as many visits as you like, for an entire year.
All modern museums should aspire to be like this.
