点评:Karen and I checked out a concert venue last night that we haven’t been to before, called The Broad Brook Opera House. Wonderful venue with great acoustics. It was only a twenty minute ride from our house, on back highways with minimal traffic. Parking at the venue was limited, but there was plenty of nearby on street parking. The show was billed as first come first served seating, so we got there a little over an hour early, as they said the doors open at seven for the eight o’clock show.
When we walked in, we found that the seating was at tables and they appeared to be all full, with many people standing around. I had always interpreted “First come first served” as meaning the early birds got the best seats, not all the seats? The idea of standing in a crowd for three hours didn’t really appeal to us and I considered asking for our money back and leaving. Karen decided to have a little discussion with the staff, who said that ten guest hadn’t arived yet and there should be room. Eventually, one of the folks in charge brought us back up to the hall and did locate a table with two seats open, and the other folks at the table turned out to be really nice people who we enjoyed meeting. But there were still about thirty people standing around with no seats, although the proprietor insisted there should be enough? Also, they had higher tables with bar stool seats closer to the stage which blocked the view from the regular tables. They should have had the higher tables towards the back of the venue.
On the positive side, the food and beverages were very reasonably priced, as was the show. The show itself blew me away. If you like southern rock, and get a chance to see a band called HIGHNOON, you will not be disappointed. Every aspect of their gig was outstanding! This was probably the most professionally performed concert by a cover band that I have ever seen. They played primarily Skinard tunes, with a lot of Allman Brothers and Marshall Tucker hits as well, with a few tunes by The Outlaws and Molly Hatchet thrown in for good measure. On every song I didn’t hear them miss a beat or a note. The sound and light systems were really good. The singers, a guy and a girl, had perfect pitch for the songs they played, and did a great job of engaging the audience, and the lead singer also played a sax and some other kind of horn on a couple of songs, as well as a flute on the Marshall Tucker tunes. The whole band, which included a drummer, a keyboardist, a bass player and two guitarist playing a Gibson and a Strat, brought great energy to the show and had the place rocking! There was even an awesome, good old fashioned drum solo in one of the Allman Brothers tunes! All in all, we’re very happy we went.
