点评:The Gatlinburg Trail is one of two dog-friendly trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s understandable that some national parks do not want dogs on the trails, but in most cases these parks usually have a couple dog-friendly trails to assuage pet owners. That was the case here. Unfortunately, this trail was really not a great trail. In the beginning, we had to traverse an employee parking lot and continue along a street which is currently under construction. Once you bypass the construction area, you come to a maintenance yard that supposedly services the park. I mean, big trucks that carry loads of rock, and other building materials are garaged here and that’s what we see as our view. When we finally get to the trail, it is so close to the Newfound Gap Road that you can see all the cars going by or waiting for someone to make a turn. By this point, the joy of walking with your dog in nature is lost and you just want to finish and reach Gatlinburg so that you can sit, eat something, and turn around to return to the service center. The point is, these unhappy and unnatural paths are not the trails that pet owners have traveled extensively with their dogs to walk. If you do, then do it right because—do I really need to answer that?
