点评:Over the years, my wife and I have been here many times and this week we visited the village again. I looked at the TA review and it was seven years since I last reviewed the place, so I decided an update was due.
We’ve become lazy and booked a cab to take us to the Huangpu Village bus station. I still prefer the tram ride from Canton Tower.
Quite frankly, to us not much has changed over the years. A new market has opened to replace the old ladies selling home grown vegetables by the side of the road which my wife always patronised. I suppose that’s progress, but not for my wife. A few new shops and noodle bars have appeared, and thankfully the village has been spared the likes of McDonald's, Champion Pizza, and Starbucks.
As others have commented there’s not much of the historic anchorage to see. I suspect there was not much to see originally. Parts of old wharfs are still there, but the last ship docked nearly 200 years ago and not much has happened to them since.
Similarly, in seven years the museum hasn’t changed much, but I still enjoy strolling through it and learn a little bit more every time. There’s a new wall display at the end about the nearby railways, of course Jeme Tien Yow (his former residence has a TA review) gets a mention. Here there are a few benches where my wife to relaxed as I again explored the museum. There are good English translations.
Out of the museum, we turned right, and we strolled to the Goteborg sculpture. Nearby are the most modern of public conveniences of which was a great relief.
Then we did an about turn and headed, more or less in a straight line, towards the Huangpu (Whampoa is the anglicised pronunciation) ancient village museum (TA reviewed). Really, both museums should be visited as they complement each other.
