点评:Make this journey! High up in the mountains of Arcadia, the twisty roads seem interminable. It’s easy to understand why so few people visit and why the ruins remained undiscovered for over a thousand years for all but the shepherds. However, the reward when you get there is immense.
The Temple tells three stories.
First is the myth of Apollo’s descent transformed from a god of battle to one of healing. Walking the grounds among the wildflowers, great oak trees and stunning vistas validates the sense of the sacred decision.
Second is the archaeological history and significance of the builder’s innovations blending old traditions with new ideas.
The third is the story of the heroic historic preservation effort which is described in a video on continuous loop inside tent. The engineering reconstruction of the temple and installation of the protective tent is amazing. In the film you see workers wrap the columns to be lifted by a 20-ton crane off their pedestals and back into place.
Plan 90 minutes minimum to visit the temple and grounds. Pro tips: there are two viewing access points: the obvious one at the ticket booth, but also one at the back of the tent. The blindingly clean WC is a short hike from the back.
