点评:The Church of St Ours is an 11/12th century church, located within the medieval citadel of Loches. It sits in a commanding position, on top of a high, rocky outcrop and is enclosed by the ancient walls and ramparts.
It can be easily visited while seeing the Royal Chateau and Dungeon. Entry is free.
The two main things to look for here are:
i) the tomb of Agnès Sorel (1422-50), mistress of King Charles VII (she also happened to be lady-in-waiting to his wife, Queen Marie of Anjou.
ii) the ornate portal, with rows of strange beasts, human or half-human figures. We spent a few minutes picking out different creatures. We spotted a merman clasping a large fish to his chest, a man grappling with a giant snake that looked to be biting his ear, another man sticking his tongue out and one figure doing a handstand. The row above seemed to have more animals. We picked out a rabbit, an owl, a goose and a lion-like creature swallowing a human head. An unusual thing about the portal is that you can still see significant traces of the original paint. Normally this would have worn off centuries ago but you can still clearly see a red background and some blue and green shades of colour.
